Show 1 DEMOCRATIC PREPARATIONS GETTING READY FOR THE JACKSON JACK-SON DAY SPREAD Proposition to Defer Celebration I Frowned On More Committees Are Appointed I Another move toward the Jackson day celebration was made yesterday 1 afternoon I was the third move and several more arc yet to bo made The i first according to the explanation of J R Ietcher was the informal meeting at which the provisional 1 committee was named The second was I the meeting of live of the seven tyfie provisional committeemen who named I an arrangements committee of twelve The third was yesterdays meeting In the parlors of the Kenyon o a portion I of the committee last named and this committee named same more committees commit-tees so if the good work continues until un-til January 8th there will have been enough committeemen and women named to guarantee an attendance of 200 required by those who are figuring on furnishing the feast Those present I yesterday were Jcrrold Letcher and E t A McDaniel who are not members of the committee but who propose to sec that the affair comes off in good slmno and Fisher Harris II A Smith Elms I Smith Bernard Stewart lat Thomas Mrs Cohen Mrs Wood and Mrs Home Mr Letcher made the opening I statement In behalf of those who favor a celebration He called attention to the fact that the Inaugural ball on the i night of the 7th might interfere and said that the Jackson day blowout I could he postponed until Jacksons f i I Birthday larch 15th Or Jackson r might be dropped and Jeffersons Birthday Birth-day celebrated on April 3rd The committee however agreed that the celebration must be held on the 8th and furthermore that It should take the form of l banquet to which all Democrats should be Invited I was also the consensus of opinion that the tax for tho feast should he kept down f to tho dollar limit although there is I some question as to being able to get it seivcd at that pi ice and certainly no drinkables other than water could be provided This question was left to the decision of the banquet committee The following committees were appointed ap-pointed Publicity William Iglehcart I G Whitney F K Nebeker of Logan W M Roylance of Provo and E A Me DanIel the last named being chairman Banquet Fisher Harris chairman Mrs George II Wood Mrs A W Mc Cone D C Dunbar and Mrs E A Wilson Programme which includes responses to toaslsJ R Lctchcr Mrs Cohen J G Bywater 11 V Mcioy and Elias Smith The reception committee which will Include about all the Democrats within later the ken of the committee will be named |
