Frye traveled up and down through the counties of central South Dakota in the districts where the vote as a rule Is close and where farmers compose com-pose greater part of the population Fourteen stops varying in length from three minutes to an hour were made during the day Senator Hanna making speeches at Rcdlield Northvllle Groton Gro-ton Andover Bristol Bradley Elrod Bryant Lake Preston Dcsmet Iroquois Iro-quois Huron Aberdeen and Webster A good deal of spice was put into the speeches at times by sharp questioning question-ing on the part of the audiences who desired to hear about trusts and imperialism im-perialism and were not slow to make their wishes knowij This was true especially at Aberdeen where Senator Hanna vas constantly y Interrupted during his speech by questions regarding regard-ing various phases of the trust issue Senator jlunnr apparently enjoyed these interruptions and invariably answered an-swered hem I During the afternoon while the train was running through a thinly populated popu-lated part of the Stato and stops wore brief arid infrequent Senator Hanna spent about half of his time at the various va-rious stations in shaking hands with the crowds who nearly dragged him from his car on one occasion in the efforts to shake hands with him At AVebslcr he was visited In his car by a delegation of the Sioux Indians from the SIsseton reservation These Indians In-dians are all voters The most Important meeting of the day was held tonight at Huron where the train stopped for the night and where both Senators Hanna and Fryo and Aberdeen In the heart of the great South Dakota wheat belt the train stopped for an hour The meeting at Aberdeen developed some lively questioning ques-tioning between Senator IIanna and the people In the crowd Senator Frye spoke briefly taking imperialism im-perialism as his main subject ridiculing the issue and asking the people of South Dakota some of whom had lost sons in the Philippines if they feared such a thing HELLO MARK Senator Hanna was then introduced Hello Mark yelled the crowd Mr Hanna proceeded to discuss the tariff What about the trusts asked someone some-one in the crowd We want to know about the trusts Well my friends If you will tell me what a trust Is Ill answer your ques tion said Mr Hanna No reply came Well If you dont know Ill tell you continued Mr Hanna DEFINES A TRUST I A trust under the law and what is known as a trust In commerce Is where the stock of a corporation is pul into the hands of a trustee carrying with it the voting power Every single train slopped for nearly thirty minutes The audience Included a numbor of Sioux Indians from the I Sissuton reservation near by Senator Hunna made a short speech For the first time he was questioned regarding Imperialism and to that subject he devoted most of his address All the Sioux Indians in the crowd header by Chief SolTwoStars and Louis Labelle the oralor J marched in to Senator Hannas car whcn he con eluded and were introduced to lihn The Sioux Indians have over a million dollars In the treasury at Washington part of the money AUC from the sale of their lands and the object of the
