Show I WILL REDUILD AT ONCE Now Building Will Rise Above the I Ruins Within Sixty Days The Short Line building belonged toW to-W J Monties of England who left Salt Lake Monday J E Dooly the agent for Mr Menxles said last night There Is an Insurance of about 10G00 on tho Dooly block and about 35000 on the Oregon Short Line building The insurance will not quite cover the loss on the Short Line building The foundations foun-dations and masonry of the first story are not much Injured On the southern south-ern line of the building was L vault constructed for the Mine and Smelter I company and the engineering department depart-ment of the Short Line This consisted consist-ed of three vaults placed one above I another Not a vestige of It remains I was utterly destroyed by the cxplo slon The vaults of the auditing and I freight departments of the railroad are both uninjured however i arrived on the scene about 430 and the flames then I this morning fames were I coming jlirough the roof The fire department I t I de-partment did most excellent work on I I UK Dooly block with the chemical emI em-i I fjlne and also with the fire extinguish I I orsln the building The fire extinguishers I I I extin-guishers strange to relate all worked perfectly and were charged and recharged re-charged many times during the fire I When the north wall of the Short Line building fell It buried the hoo of the department connected with the standpipes stand-pipes of the Dooly building Mr Campbell Camp-bell ot the Utah Lht and Power company com-pany then furnished me electric power for K and I switched on the electric f elevator purnp to the Dooly block fire 1 system which threw two streams fre the roof of the block continuously for about four hours These streams were I used alternately on the south side of the Dooly block and the Short Line J building and but for them the rear end I of tho Dooly block would have been gutted by the fire 1 have commenced clearing away the debris and will rebuild the Short Line block at once l the rear part c < ivIll i be ready for occupancy In thirty i i days The main high school building I I is1 I uninjured The block will bo made 1 I t the t same tizc as the building destroyed I 1 built he building nbovo the founda i I ton before fn sixty days and shall do j It In less time this time if I I can get the j I materIal Too much credit cannot be given the members of the fire department who worked from the fire ladder of tho l Dooly block where the heat was almost al-most unbearable |
