Show MiLITiA BREAKSGA IP 7 Annual Encampment National Guard Ends THE TENTS QUICKLY STRUCK lock When tho Bugles Be At 9 Oclock to I gan Souuding the General Not n I Tent End Been Lowered One Min Down Tent Was uto Later Every Ken Have Been Greatly Benefited by Instruction Received in Cnmp March Through Town to the A Fine Showing ory and Make t The annual encampment of the National Na-tional Guard of Utah came to an end yesterday and the men started for their homes after having spent a pleasant and profitable period of eight daM under un-der convoa At 9 oclock In the morning l morn-ing every tent In camp was erect but less than two minutes later as the last note of the general sounded not n single sin-gle canvas shelter was standing Within I With-in five minutes moro the tents were carefully folded and ready for conveyance convey-ance to the armory The boys struck camp with the same display of skill that hus characterized the execution of all orders since the beginning of thc encampment After the men had been paid off those who were not so untortunate as to be on the guard detail gathered about the commanding olllcers and gave three hearty cheers for them BrlgGen Cannon was lifted to the I shoulders of a group of sturdy Guardsmen Guards-men and borne about camp amid the cheers of the members of the various organizations He took occasion to compliment the men upon the splendid discipline that they had maintained during the eight days In camp and upon up-on the showing which they have made at all drills parades and reviews Col Park also paid the men 0 high compliment ment upon the showing made by them during the outing saying that the en t cumpment was by far the most successful suc-cessful one since the establishment of the Guard in Utah DID A BLANKET DRILL > After the spccchmaking the men turned their attention to amusing themselves by tossing a number of unfortunates un-fortunates In a blanket and then at the I suggestion made simultaneously by a number of the men It was decided to I toss the cook A rush was then made for tho kitchen The cool fled at their I approach but was quickly cornered between two large ranges Just as the men were on the point of seizing him ho armed himself with a large dipper filled with hot water and threatened to scald the first man who laid hands on him As part of the crowd hesitated others began pelting him with biscuits Col Park appeared on the scene and induced the men to subside and make no further assaults upon the unfortunate unfortu-nate chef MARCHED TO THE ARMORY The battery left for the city shortly after 11 oclock together with a detachment detach-ment of men In charge of tho horses used by the officers The other organizations organi-zations did not leave until nearly 3 p m when they boarded a train and reached the depot to find the battery already there and waiting for them With little delay the brigade formed In 1 I line for the march through town to the armory The troops were headed by Gen Cannon and staff The signal corps marched at the head II of the brigade followed by the companies com-panies of tho First Infantry the hospital hospi-tal corps and the battery The line moved east to Main street south to Fourth South street cast to West Temple Tem-ple street north to Market street and thence to the armory where they were 1 dismissed The members of the organizations organi-zations stationed In the city at once made their way to their homes but several of the outside companies were forced to remain In town over night as their trains had departed An order was Issued from headquarters headquar-ters by Gov Wells yesterday complimenting 1 menting officers and men In the highest terms upon the In which the way encampment en-campment has bpen carried on |
