Show GERMAN DAY AT LAKE PEOPLE OF FATHEULAND HAVE CELEBRATION Occasion Graced by a Queen Mies Anna Meyerhofrer Good Singing by the Harmonic Society A good crowd went to Saltalr yesterday I in the exercises of I day to participate German Latterday Saints AlH the I Germans Irrespective of religion were Invited to attend and many not affil i lated with the Mormon church went j out After some sports and an Informal Infor-mal programme In the early afternoon a fine formal observance of the occasion occa-sion took place on the dancing floor of the pavilion The programme began at 5 oclock and was opened with a song by the German choir This was followed by prayer by Henry Reiser The Mannerchor of the Harmonic Singing Sing-Ing society then rendered Fruhllng am Rheln Von Breu The reorganized Harmonic under the leadership or Prof Hoffmann proved an excellent chorus and encores of both numbers were demanded Miss Anna Meyerhof fer queen of the day was next Introduced in-troduced Miss Meyerhofter made a stately and beautiful quden She had a charming group of maids of honor consisting of Misses Polly Lautensock Sophie Lack Bertha Hermann Julia Tadje Emily Grimm Bertha Kohler Lizzie Kcrner and Alma Rick G M Hem the orator of the day delivered de-livered a short address In German In which he called attention lo the part the GermanAmericans had done toward to-ward building up the country called the Germans the best people 011 earth and paid a glowing tribute to those who had left the Vaterland to make their homes across the sea The address of the Queen was read by Prime Minister Herman Grethcr This was followed by Tanzlled frOm Becker by the Mannerchor and Er wachet by a large chorus of small children led by Eduard Janoscheck President Snow was discovered In the audience and was prevailed upon to make a few remarks In the course of which he congratulated the German Americana for their success In this country The programme closed with the rendition of Die Wncht am Rheln by the audience The evening was passed In dancing Mr and Mrs Schneider were awarded the prize for the oldest married couple Miss Caroline Caro-line Krause G7 was adjudged the oldest old-est unmarried lady Hans Gigy 48 was the oldest unmarried man and Mr and Mrs Herman Grether who had ten children present were awarded the prize fpr the largest family The affair was successfully managed by a committee com-mittee consisting of Peter Lautensock Frank Penrose Henry Reiser Herman Grether Sperry Lawson H E Jenkins Jen-kins Eduard Janoscheck Adolf Brox Lconhard Ruckert and Christian Kup ifer Hesort Notes At the Lagoon yesterday the children of the Jewish Sundayschool passed a most enjoyable day the guests of the Council of Jewish Women No attempt at a programme was made but the children passed their time In playing games and enjoying the attractions of the resort S P The Indian war veterans have their excursion to Lagoon today and the committees having the matter In charge say that there Is no doubt but there will be a very large attendance as they have worked up considerable interest in the matter and have prepared pre-pared a programme that will appeal to the mind of many of the oldtimers as well as the newcomers |
