Show CREMATORY SITE ON WEST SIDE i I Majority of Members of the Sanitary Committee Favor Placing Crematory I Cre-matory at Fifth South and Fifth West I I I The proper place for the location of the proposed new city crematory occupied occu-pied the attention of the members of the Sanitary committee of the City Council for a short time yesterday aftcrnooi There were present at tho meeting Dr Beaky Edgar Howe Charles R Howe and Mr Hewlett The site favored by Beatty and the Howes Is i at the corner of Fifth South unl Fifth West streets S1 x20 rods which can be purchaser for 3773 All but Hewlett were in favor of recommending recommend-ing the purchase buthe refused to sign report recommending It saying that he desired further time in which to consider the matter and also that he considered the price asked for the property higher than It should be Dr Beatty said if tho silo named were selected the city would save 3000 a year In cartage alofio and he was also of the opinion that a new crematory crema-tory on Improved lines could be built with a capacity of thirty tons a day for at least half what the old one cost which was about 16000 If the site suggested were selected ho said there would also be a saving of a large amount of money In the coal used as It was near to the railway track and the cartage that had been necessary In the past would be avoided Hewlett said a piece of property near the Fifteenth ward meetlnghoupe had been offered lo the city but while he did not favor this he was not ready to vote for ihc other Dr Beatty called the attention of the committee to the fact that the closer the crematory could be placed to the business center the greater the saving In cartage would be but contended that it should be near one of the railway 5 lines |
