Show MISSIONARY SOCIETY MEETS Elects Officers nnd Adopts Resolutions Resolu-tions Against Rum The Womens Missionary society of the Utah Presbytery was In session both yesterday morning and afternoon In the basement of the First PresbYterian I Presby-terian church After the devotional exercises ex-ercises the reffulur election of olllcern took place as follows President Mrs J II Meteor Richfield vicepresident 1rs R G McNlece Salt Lake secretary I secre-tary Miss Nettle G Ray Nephl treasurer I treas-urer Mrs E B Crltchlow Salt Lake illS Mrs S E Wlshard rid a paper on I The Way to Gain Missionary Information Informa-tion and the Best Way to Impart It I I She held that the best way to gain It I Is I to read the missionary periodicals I and to disseminate and the dally newspapers seminate such information have good I missionary meetings and spread missionary mis-sionary literature Mrs C E Sullivan I i of Brigham City read a paper on The Best Method of Assisting and Maintaining Maintain-ing Interest in Missions She recommended recom-mended conducting missionary societies socie-ties along the lines of literary clubs and If necessary to call the societies I clubs also to adopt modern methods In interesting the ladles I The report of the secretary Mrs W M Ferry of Park City was read by I Mrs MoNlece as Mrs Ferry was 111 I and unable to attend The report I showed a steady and gratifying increase In-crease both of Interest and membership member-ship Two new societies were reported I one at Spanish Fork and one at Kays vllle The report of the treasurer MrS Crltchlow showed that 521 had been received In aid of home and foreign missions for the year A resolution was passed relative to missionary funds passing through the hands of the society and the Presbytery Presby-tery was asked to approve the collection of such funds by the women through the Christian Endeavor societies and the Sunday choos as well as through their own society and the same was approved as requested I was then decided de-cided to appoint ofllccrs to make collections col-lections In each church A resolution was adopted urging the prohibition of intoxicating liquors among tho people of the newlyacquired possessions of the United Stales and the feeble races of the inlands of the Pacific I was remarked re-marked that the Amount of rum being Imported Into the Pacific Islands was causing a great deal of apprehension among missionaries The resolution will be presented to Congress through Congressman Sutherland Reports were received from tho different I dif-ferent societies direct showing an encouraging I en-couraging progress and the amount of money received gave practical evidence CIcenee t of this some of the smullpst organizations organiza-tions doing remarkably well |
