Heber Sanders Francis McDonald and Henry Bird The convention was conventon to have met at L oclock but It was not called to order till 3To and even then it made slow ogress Every one In terested realized that the contest would woul bean exceedingly close one and delay was sought at every turn and after three short recesses the ballot was taken about oclock The vote was by districts the chairmen chair-men announcing thq preferences of their delegations which In many cases were divided between the two candi dates As the calling of the list pro lst PlO greased the uncertainty of the result became apparent and tho excitement was Intense The suspense exctement the contestants were subjected was quite visible on their faces and the Strain Was so errant nn the cnnrntmCnr that those functionaries became de cidedly rattled and were exceedingly slow in arriving at a total And even then after a lively bout between the principals and their assistants a recall was made to verify the votes of rccal tricts Van Colts side Insisted on the verification us without it the day was lost to them while the Moffat crowd whose chances of success were meas ured by l a single vote feared to make any move or even to again cast the totals lest their slender majority should evaporate I was contended by Mr Van Colt that there had been an error and that a recall and a recount of the vote would be no more than tahThls contention was respected the con vention but the result still remained I eightysix votes for Mortal and eighty five votes for Van Colt Following is the result of the
