Show UTAH FRUIT INTERESTS MEETING OF STATE BOARD OF HORTICULTURE Members Will Make a Tout of Inspection In-spection Through the Northern Counties of the State The State Board of Horticulture held a quarterly meeting yesterday afternoon after-noon at the Cullcn with President Thomas Judd oC St George in the chair The board met lo map out a tour through the northern part of the State this week to look Into fruit matter and to confer with county inspectors relative to fruit conditions the probable prob-able inroads of pests with new suggestions sug-gestions for getting rid of them The Idea is also to gather material for a bulletin to be Issued relative to packing pack-Ing and mnrkpting fruit The board finds that while California has more Inferior fruit Iniroportlon than Utah yet California packers have sense enough lo keep Inferior fruit out of their boxes and consequently get a reputation for growing superior fruit Utah packers have been failing to grade their goods and In consequence get a poor reputation for really good fruit The price and grade or every fruit package in the East are determined by the poorest fruit in a package and the board hopes by Its bulletin to put Utah growers on their guard and Induce In-duce them to institute a much needed reform The board brought up the fact that notwithstanding the heavy fruit crop there need not be any waste because be-cause there are seven canneries north of Salt Lake City paying fair prices and which have agreed to take all the marketable fruit the orchards can supply sup-ply The members of the board leave ihis morning for Brlgham City and Willow to Investigate conditions up there and will meet later In Utah county |
