Show ISHOP OF JAPAN HERE I EPISCOPAL DIGNITARY ON HIS I I WAY TO THE ORIENT I I Was a Missionary in China for Several Sev-eral YearsWill Preach in St Pauls Church This Morning i I Rt Rev S C Partridge IX D recently re-cently appointed bishop of the EpiscoPal I Episco-pal church at Kyoto Japan and Miss Partridge his daughter arc at the Knutsford en route to the Orient I aftdr a visit to this country from China where Dr Partridge had been previously engaged In missionary work The bishop will preach in St Pauls church this morning on Chinese Chi-nese and Japanese missions 1 and many Salt Lake people will be glad to hear him particularly as Dr Partridge occupied the Wu Chang station In China for a number years a station now filled by Rev Mr Rldclev I formerly rector of St Paula church In this city In a brief talk last night Bishop Partridge said that there is not the difference between Japanese and Chinese Chi-nese In favor of the former that Is supposed Take a given number of boys of each nation he said and give them the same advantages and they will grow up about the same The Japanese have been brought more in contact with Europeans who have made more of them and the spirit of progress hits been awakened In i Japan to a remarkable degree The 1 I materialistic tendencies of the Japanese Japan-ese In religious matters are In the nature oL a reaction from which there will be a return before long When asked about the very adverse comments being made on the missionary mission-ary work In the Orient by some public I writers the bishop smiled arid said I he would prefer Chinese Christians to a good l many men who called them lYglvea Americans There Is very I good stuff on those people he said I and the possibilities in that part of the world ore very groat Bishop Partridge will take active charge of his diocese on reaching Kyoto and from his experience In that field is confident of doing good work |
