the Republican Repub-lican county convention was called to order by County Chairman George M I Hanson and the call was read by I Secretary L J Holther Mr Hanson I then announced that the committee I had selected A 13 Hayes as temporary chalmnn and Mr Howell as temporary I tem-porary secretary The names were greeted with applause and when Mr Hayes took the chair he made a short I address upon tho political Issues of the day touching brlelly upon the questions ques-tions of finance trusts nnd Imperialism I ism and scoring the Democratic party for its inconsistency and Its attitude upon the Issues of the dnA dn-A comirilttec on credentials and one on permanent organization and order of business was appointed consisting of one delegate from each ward and precinct t A rccess of thirty minutes was taken to allow the committees to report re-port When the convention reassembled reassem-bled the committee on credentials reported I re-ported no contests and all precincts reported re-ported represented except two The committee also recommended that each precinct represented be entitled to cast the full delegation vote and the report re-port was adopted The committee on permanent organization organ-ization and order of business reported naming Hon A R Heywood as permanent perma-nent chairman and Mrs J F Gamble I as permanent secretary rho report was adopted and lion A R Her wood took the chair H6 made a few remarks urging harmonious action and then took up the order of business bus-iness which was first the naming of n candidate to be presented to the State convention to be elected a delegate to the National convention at Philadelphia Philadel-phia There seetncd to be no disposition among the delegate to name anyone and finally a motion was made to proceed pro-ceed to ballot for a candidate When this motion vns put and just ns a vote wns about to be taken Mr I Olasmann took the Moor and stated that he desired to speck ajf a matter of I personal City man MY Murphy raised the point 1 of or dei that the gentleman notJspcak lug to the question The chairman attempted to make a statement but Mr Glnsmunn became vociferous and demanded fait play and said that he demanded to be heard on this matter He said that he asa I as-a member of the county central committee com-mittee had received the unanimous I support of Weber county for Congress and that any aspersions cast upon him necessarily reflected upon the entire Republican party of Weber county He said he had been Ignored in all preparations prep-arations for the convention and took IL side wipe at the temporary chairman chair-man continuing his remarks until Chairman He wood called him to order or-der Glnsmann thon appealed from the decision de-cision of the chair and while a standing stand-ing vote was being taken Gla mann appeikd to the house for fair playray ing hat he did not want to be shutoff shut-off from making his personal defense The vote stood thirtyfive to fiftytso in favor of sustaining the chair and after the chairman had announced that Mr Glasmann would have all opportunity op-portunity to present his matters at a proper time the latter withdrew his appeal Capt 13 T Huianiskl then nominated nomi-nated George M Hanson as Webtr countys candidate for delegate find J A Wright named Sidney Stevens Then Mr Glasmann got the floor again fwd under the statement that he desired to say a word of protest against one of the candidates launched Into a most bitter denunciation of Mr Hanson He said that Mr Hanson had prostituted the ofilce of chairman to his own ends and that Hanson stands for trickery chicanery and dishonesty He wild he could show that Mr Hanson Han-son was personally dishonest and corrupt cor-rupt By this time the convention was In an uproar and the friends of Han ron and Stevens both called Shame Sit down Bo quiet and hisses were distinguishable above the turmoil tur-moil Glasmann continued his torrent of abuse until E M Allison arose and made the point of order that the gentleman gen-tleman was using unparliamentary language The chair sustained the point of order and Glosmann took his scat Allison then moved that the remarks re-marks of Glasm nn be expuiged fiom thi > iccord which wan carried by unanimous unan-imous vote John D Murphy arose to speak In reply to Glosrnann but the chair decided de-cided that as the remarks had been stricken from the record there was nothing to talk to Murphy reluctantly subsided and then the vote was taken which lesulted in the choice of George M Hanson by a voto of 153 to 19 with one vote for Glnsmunn Mr Stevens was then on motion of O P McDowell seconded by Mr Hanson named as alternate by acclamation In the time of the Intermission to prepare the ballots MI Murphy and Air Glasmann held a
