Ogden butchers excursion to the Lagoon yesterday was i one of the biggest events that has ever I been held at that resort In point of attendance It rivaled the big holiday I crowds and when It comes to real unIt un-It was a hummer The thousands who i were present o the resort can testify that the butchers know how to arrange and conduct ft successful outing The management of Lagoon estimates that between 3000 nnd 4000 people were on the grounds during the afternoon and evening The lunch bowery anal an-al of the cosy nooks that have been provided for crowded picnicking parties were Jammed every minute of the lime I on the dancing pavilion thousands of J young people danced to the Inspiring music from Olnons orchestra The lake wag dotted with boating parties all day and all of the privilege men wore smiles of complacency when business let up for a moment to give them a chance to smile all of which told that the crowd had money and were spend Jug ItIn a way to get the most possible enjoyment out of It THE ROAD RACE The first sporting event wa the bicycle I I bi-cycle road race over the course from Bountiful l to the Lagoon The observation observa-tion train which was run out at 130 carried the largest number of i passengers passen-gers ever carried over the road on one train I consisted of thirteen cars and carried not far from 1000 passengers At Bountiful the start was made with ten riders Those on the train saw u pretty contest though the day was hot the road rough and dusty and a headwind head-wind met the riders rendering their time somewhat slower than It otherwise other-wise would have been John B Hume who won the time prize over the same course two weeks ago carried off time and first prizes yesterday He H receive re-ceive an S850 bicycle suit The riders their the crowd was the muchialkedo barbecue barbe-cue The committee had provided 600 loaves of bread and 09C pounds of prime beef and they thought to have enough for every one The barbecue and carving anc ing tables were located on the grassy plat west of the lunchcounter and thither thousands thronged from 4 until I un-til 530 In this as In everything else the crowd was orderly but i was simply sim-ply astonishing the way the beef and bread disappeared A score of carvers were busy all the time and the beef was eaten bY the thousands with evident I evi-dent relish By the time the baseball B Sleater with Miss Ruby Papworth second EVENING EVENTS I During the evening In the pavilion I there was I fourround boxing cdntest between Jack Conway of Montana and Cbnny RIclly of San Francisco They made ah interesting exhibition and a puise was collected and divided between be-tween the two butVers Theidke > valk prluc was warded to I Chester Morris and Miss Eva Webber both of Ogden The waltz contest was awarded to Bert Redding and Miss Lulu Raddon of Salt Lake In the two step the prize was > awarded to W B Hall Lake and Miss Lilian Papworth of Salt LakThe The special prize offered for the oldest old-est butcher on the grounds was awarded to John Cook who Is S2 years of age Richard Papworth Was awarded the prize for the largest family fam-ily He had twelve children on the grounds The evening up to 1130 was occupied by tho young folks In dancing Tho last train for Ogden left at 1045 carrying car-rying 200 passengers and the Salt Lakers returned on the midnight train Barbecue Notes Early In the afternoon David Uns worth of Salt Lake had his locke picked and a silver watch and chain was taken The theft occurred during dur-ing the barbecue Jam The watch asa as-a
