Show Park Commission Completes Harbor Diking of the boat harbor and marina at Bear Lake was declared de-clared completed this week by the Utah State Park and Recreation Recre-ation Commission. Work on the diking of the giant harbor, the largest in Utah, has been underway since last spring. The harbor is located lo-cated less than 2 miles north of Garden City on the southwest edge of Bear Lake. In addition to the diking, work has also included installation installa-tion of a major boat ramp and stairways. Work yet to be completed com-pleted includes installation of the boat docks and moors, and a general cleanup of the area, now that the heavy equipment and crews are finished, said Aldin O. Hayward, Park Commission director. di-rector. Building of the dike involved dumping 54,500 cubic yards of rock base and gravel in the lake, then pumping the water inside the harbor out while the bed of the harbor was lowered to provide pro-vide water in- the harbor for boat launching and mooring even in low water periods. This was followed by rip rapping the dike, and finally cutting an opening in the northwest corner to permit the lake water to again enter the harbor and to provide an entrance-exit for boats. The work was done by Smith Brothers Paving and Construction Construc-tion Company for $36,454.00. The project has been financed from boating registration fees and boat fuel tax refunds, Mr. Hayward said. |
