Show Purchase of Bonds Continues High D. Howe Moffat. Salt Lake County chairman for the Utah Savings Bonds Committee, was informed today that Utah residents resi-dents purchased $1,659,400 in Series E and H Savings Bonds in August, the fourth consecutive consecu-tive month in which sales have show an increase over 1961. Salt Lake County bond purchases pur-chases amounted to $687,183, an increase of $57,500 over August 1961, according to the Treasury Department release, bringing the county's eight-month total to $5,342,904, the chairman said. N. Blaine Winters, director of teacher personnel, state department depart-ment of public instruction and chairman of Utah's school savings sav-ings stamps program, reported that stamp day is already under way in a large number of schools. Many school administrators adminis-trators are helped in servicing the program by committees representing rep-resenting local units of the Par- ent-Teacher Association, American Ameri-can Legion Auxiliary, and other civic organizations. "Utah students purchased $158,278 in U.S. savings stamps during the last fiscal year which represents an increase of 35.2 per cent over the previous year, the highest percentage increase in the nation," Mr. Winters pointed out. "This is tangible evidence that more parents and educators are becoming aware of the patriotic as well as the educational values of this thrift program which far outweigh the actual dollar investment in-vestment on the part of the children. chil-dren. We hope for even greater participation during 1962-63," Chairman Winters said. |
