Show Moss to Seek Funds For Utah Hatchery Senator Frank E. Moss of Utah will formally request an addition of $30,000 to the Interior appropriations appro-priations bill to provide for establishment es-tablishment of a co-operative sport fisheries unit at Utah State University, Logan, he announced Friday. Such units are established by the Bureau of Sports Fisheries and Wildlife, of the Fish and Wildlife Service, the Senator said, and they engage in research as well as provide training, management man-agement assistance, cooperation with other federal and state agencies. He further said: "USU has a cooperative wildlife wild-life research unit which was established es-tablished in 1935. The budget requests for fiscal year 1962 contain con-tain $11,000 for its continuation. "The $30,000 which I will request re-quest is for the addition of a sports fisheries unit. Because of the excellent cooperation which has existed in connection with the wildlife research unit, I am confident that the Utah State University would be a choice location for a fishery unit. The school is well located geograph- ically and is experienced in the training of fishery personnel. "I am informed that without assistance the colleges have been unable to meet the demands for well trained personnel in the fishery field. With the increasing demands on our recreation facilities facil-ities in the west, it is most important im-portant that we maintain a force of personnel trained in the fish problems of the area. "The $30,000 would be used to provide the salary of a unit leader, an assistant leader, technical tech-nical and automotive equipment, funds for travel, genreal expense and limited financial assistance to graduate students assigned to special fishery projects." Senator Moss said that projects in which the unit might engage are: 1. Surveys of fishery resources on national parks and other federal fed-eral holdings. 2. Participation in along range research project such as studies of fish management in reservoirs. 3. Fishery research and management man-agement projects of joint interest inter-est to states and the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife.
