Show Legislative Council Remains Aloof On Warehouse Issue The Utah Legislative Council has decided a "hands off" policy in regard to the proposed construction con-struction of a $375,000 warehouse ware-house and headquarters for the Utah State Liquor Commission. The council adopted a motion thanking the Liquor Commission and the State Board of Examiners Exami-ners for information on the proposed pro-posed building but referred the material back to the Board of Examiners without recommendation. recommen-dation. Attorney General E. R. Callis-ter Callis-ter Jr. has ruled that the Liquor Commission has the authority to build the structure out of its revenues. The council was told by Paul V. Kelly, chairman, and Allan D. Johnson, commissioner, that the state's profits from the liquor business would this year exceed earlier estimates by more than the cost of the new building. Mr. Kelly and Mr. Johnson pointed out the commission will save more than $40,000 a year by use of the proposed functional func-tional type headquarters building. build-ing. They explained the present storage facilities are not practical. prac-tical. They note expenses involved in-volved in stacking liquor nine teen cases high by hand, a practice prac-tice now forced upon the commission. com-mission. Under Mr. Kelly's proposal the commission would purchase a tract of land at Third North and Fifth West on which the head- 1 quarters would be constructed. Mr. Kelly wanted assurance the Legislative Council would not oppose the move. He indicated he would not move further without with-out a go ahead from the Exam- ; iners. |
