Show Newspapermen Gather For 60th Annual Association Conclave 1 ' 11 Roy E. Gibson, Nephi Times News, convention chairman, and E. Russell Innes, Lehi Free Press, president of the Utah State Press Association, look over one of the entries in the Better Newspaper Awards contest. Weekly newspapers from all over the state have entered to have their newspapers judged by experts. The awards will be presented Sunday, February 16, at the Awards Banquet during the annual Utah State Press convention held this weekend Newspapermen from all over the state will meet in Salt Lake City this week end to attend sessions ses-sions of the 60th annual convention conven-tion of the Utah State Press Association As-sociation to be held at the New-house New-house Hotel, February 14, 15 and 16, 1958. Featured speakers during the convention will be George S. Ec-cles, Ec-cles, president of the First Security Se-curity Corporation; D. James Cannon, director Utah Tourist and Publicity Bureau; D. Stanley Lesher of the Brigham Young University, and Carl C. Chris-tensen, Chris-tensen, co-ordinator of research of the University of Utah. Convention chairman Roy E. Gibson, editor and publisher of the Nephi Times-News, has outlined out-lined the following subjects to be treated by discussion during workshops Saturday and Sunday (Continued on Page 4) Newspapermen Gather For 60th Annual Association Conclave (Continued from Page 1) morning: "Key to Tomorrow's Newspaper Job Shop Profits"; "How to Produce School Papers and Make a Profit;" Weekly Newspaper Representaives presentation pre-sentation film to the automotive industry, "Roads and Wheels"; "Improve Your Newspaper with Better News Photos"; "Better Layouts Sell More Space"; "We Do Everybody Else's Public Relations Re-lations What About Our Own," and "Answering Your Mechanical Mechani-cal Questions." On Saturday afternoon at the annual association business meeting meet-ing elections will be held to determine the new association officers and directors. The Utah State Press Association Associa-tion lists as its members 52 weekly, papers throughout the state. Present officers are E. Russell Rus-sell Innes, Lehi Free Press is president; William B. Wallis of Vernal, vice president; Jack Warner, War-ner, Spanish Fork, secretary and treasurer. |
