Show i American tour included engagements engage-ments with the New York Philharmonic, Phil-harmonic, the Cincinnati Symphony, Sym-phony, the Denver symphony, among others, and important recital re-cital engagements -across the continent. Famed Musician To Appear at Y Internationally renowned violinist vio-linist Johanna Martzy will be presented in concert as the next number of the Brigham Young University Community Concert series Nov. 13 at 8:15 p.m. in the Joseph Smith Auditorium. Miss Martzy, the first major woman violinist to appear on the concert stage in many years, has had a distinguished career from early childhood. She was born in Hungary, and at the age of six began to play the violin. At 16 she won the Remenyi Prize, at 17 the Hubay Prize and at 18 was awarded the "Diplom de Virtuousite." The next year she appeared with the Budapest Orchestra Or-chestra under Mengelberg. Prior to her first appearances in America, extensive solo recitals re-citals in Switzerland, Germany, France, Holland, Italy and Great Britain won her high praise. Miss Martzy made "a debut to be remembered" on this side of the Atlantic during the 1957-58 season and immediately took her place beside her peers on the international scene. Her first |
