Show Ol University Receives Ford Fund Grant Utah's program of "living-room learning" has been given an additional ad-ditional $45,000 grant one of the largest awarded nationally for this type of program by the Fund for Adult Education (Ford) to boost the program over the next three years. University of Utah officials were informed of the additional; grant by the Fund for Adult Education. Ed-ucation. President A. Ray Olpin said the grant would be used to promote adult discussion groups in the humanities, social sciences j and fine arts. "The Fund's generous gen-erous support is a tribute to those who are pioneering liberal ' adult education in Utah,' he said. I Following a policy of the University Uni-versity of Utah Extension Division Divi-sion the other universities Utah State University, Brigham Young University and Weber College were invited to participate parti-cipate in the program. Over 100 discussion groups throughout the state have already been organized. organ-ized. Study groups can select from some twenty topics including includ-ing world politics, foreign policy, pol-icy, international relations, modern mod-ern poetry, parenthood, understanding under-standing great books, economics, modern painting and aging in a modern world. Dean Harold W. Bentley of "the University's extension Division Divi-sion stressed the excellence of the materials in the courses and said, "This is a splendid opportunity oppor-tunity for friends and study groups to further their education educa-tion in their own living rooms at a cost well within the reach of everyone." Additional information about the courses offered in "forum I for Americans" many of which include specially prepared films and recordings may be procured pro-cured from the Extension Division Divi-sion of the University of Utah or from the other paritcipating universities. |
