Charles Summers, William Haines and Olsen Waters were the names responded to by a trio in police court this morning who. were charged with stealing a ride on the Rio Grande Western. The testimony of Haines develops the fact that instead of causing the arrest of every poor devil who chances to crawl Into a dirty box car to save walking over the desert, that the officious officials should investigate the conduct of its employees who are iu the habit of knocking knock-ing down box car fares. Haines lias been in the employ of the company com-pany at Castle Gate on the section and came in to tret the time checks given him cashed, they not being good except here. These two were discharged. Water's case was continued. con-tinued. Peter Tombero. the Italian saloon keeper convicted yesterday of allowing females in his saloon after the hours of 9 p. m., was fined tio and costs. By his attorney, William Will-iam Newton, he gave notice of an appeal. Nunk Condley convicted of assault upon one Mellen with an ax was fined $5 and costs, which he paid. The Griffith family, Sam, bis wife and the pert young woman whose gHb tongue was referred to in a recent article In The Times, are again in court. Sam was charged with assault and battery by one Hansen not the Journalist on the Netct while Mrs. Griffith pleaded not guilty to getting drunk. The girl was merely monkeying around as a wit-ties. wit-ties. Mrs. Griffith had her bead all bandaged band-aged up, the result of a wound inflicted by a big Danish woman whom she assaulted with a shovel. The latter brushed the shovel aside with a broom and knocked a bale of bay out of Mrs. Griffith. The Griffith . family were called at 6 p. m. but failed to respond.
