Show FIOXEER DAY. How It was Celebrated at Union Fort The Parade. One of the nicest little parades that ever was indulged in was the feature of yesterday yester-day at Union Fort in honor of the old settlers set-tlers first entering this valley. Promptly at 11 o'clock John Sharp, marshal mar-shal of the day, gave the order, "Forward, march." The following is a description of the floats and form of the parade. Marshal of the Day. Union Band, 18 pieces. Clown. Utah as it was in 1S47. Old settlers in carriages. Hand cart, drawn by old lady and gentleman as they crossed the plain. Home Industry. Carpenter. Blacksmiths. Representatives from foreign countries. Clown. Blacksmiths. Shoemakers. Utah in 1892. Ward Authorities. Relief Society. Young Ladies' Association. Riders, horseback, 25 couple. Utah's best crop, 102 children. Union Primary School. Union's best crop. Indian Wigwam. Indians on horseback. Citizens in carriages. After the parade the crowd assembled at the Ward meeting house, where basehall, footracing aud other sports was indulged in until 5 o'clock, when all adjourned to the Sandy race track to witness the races. In all the day was well spent, and the promoters of the parade deserve a great deal of credit for the manner in which it was gotten up and carried out. j Pioneer day, July 25th, 1892, will be a day long remembered by the inhabitants of Union. |
