Show PKKIOD8 FOB ELECTIONS. The Tim i s has heretofore expressed itself aa being in favor of consolidating elections in the territory and especially in advocacy of iixing November as the time for choice of territorial and county coun-ty ollieials. It believes, however, that lu the election of city officials in cities of the first and second class, the time now provided for them is uitu appropriate appro-priate and should not be changed, for it does not believe, it advisable to mix national issues with those of a strictly municipal character. The legislature is not supposed to be enacting laws merely for tomorrow or next month; it should feel impressed with the fact that the territory is growing grow-ing rapidly and that conditions are changing right along. We repeat that we believe the public interest would be well subserved by making no change in tho time of holding hold-ing municipal elections in the cities of the classes hereinbefore referred to, and that school elections should not be held near a period whi n exciting interest inter-est in national affairs is prevalent. We are glad to noto, however, that there is a manifest disposition to consolidate the August and November elections in the last named month, and we hope to note the passage of an act by the legislature legis-lature to that etfeet. |
