The tire spread very rapidly and In half an hour the firemen were forced hack from the building, and directed their elforts to saving the trunk factory of S. Levy, the next door north. By 10:30 this building ami tho Langstatf Hardware Hard-ware company's store, which adjoined the hat factory on the sonth, were practically in ruins, Lcuvcmau's hotel, probably the finest south of the Ohio river was iu Haines. The tire kept on spreading. Iu about an hour the magnificent live-story hotel build, lug was totally destroyed. The loss to the hotel will be $100,000. About midnight the w ind changed and began to sweep the tire eastward. The firemen were forced back, and in a short time two or three adjoining buildings were destroyed, including Lemon j ,V dale's wholesale dry goods house, Wet. ler's hardware store, William .lack's' china store, aud William Wilson's wholesale dm house. Again the wind veered to the west, and the fire started back to Second street. In a short time Jones, Huhn anil Company's printing house, and the Lilly Carriage Lompuny'i plant were destroyed.
