She will ask to see down in tho cellar, up in tho attic, out in the back yard, into closets, trunks boxes. All this time she will be prying you with questions concerning your personal affairs. It is'nt much use to tell such women to mind their own business. Thev can't do it. JIIMl VOI It OWN III S8NF.SS, No offci'se intentled; but just mind your own business anil let others alone. The trouble with a great many elever ieople is that they aro entirely too nebby. Tho uvcrapro individual will have enough to do to attend properly to his own affairs, lie s expected to make on honest living, deal fairly with his neighbors, take an interest in tho gen-eral welfare and help tho needy. If he docs this no one can justly complain of bim, and he will lind that he has all he can attend to. It is none of your business whether he cats hot biscuit or buckwheat cakes for breakfast ; none whether he kisses his wife two or throe times a day; none whether his grandfather drove hogs or bheep for a living. Some men aro nebby, but women are worse. Ho la so plaint that tho Clkvklano men who loyally supported him aro utterly disgusted with his subserviency to Hill, Instead of attending to his tluties at Washing, ton, Senator Hill has for days boon at Albany directing tho course of legisla-tion, dictating Ki.owi.r's appointments ami bossing the selection of delegates to the statu and national conventions. And Governor Fi.owi-.it- , like tho dull and stupid figurehead that he is, sits helplessly by and permits himself to be effaced. UTAH PHILOSOPHY. The Logan Journal jumps onto the esteemed lhraldui this city, for selling a page of its Sunday edition tu the ru publicans, in a long editorial under tho caption of "A Double Organ." You shouldn't be so hard on the organ of the Salt Lake demseraey, Mr. Journal, for, you know, it was all in the family. At the same time the Journal makes tho statement ' that Tiff TlMF.i sold out to the liberals." Well, hardly, TBI TjOtCS was never sold but onee and that was when it accepted in good faith the "(pivision" scheme of the lately returned exlile. who for so many years refused to .sujbscribe to the laws of tho United Slates, It, however, did not take long to discover that In Utah "a republican" aud democrat", from a division Standpoint, was one aud the same tiling. Pot instance, the Salt Lake llkrald. Anything to down the liberals. ( The quarrels of the brethren are de-lightful, in i'rovo the Enquirer sizos up rrMilts as follows: Tfjo I'rovo election i" past, ar.tl in thnir parti.-i- (l''fyut, rfpabUcaal bar can for reit vajolbtng. Uffl Annual they Ct 28 votes in I'rovo; this lection they :mt 189, a nin of 5U' 3 per cent. MM Attfatt the democrat iiut a majority of 154; tltls election tliey can l.'0:ibt of oaly that majority. Tho Dispatch, the organ of the demo-cratic brethren takes auother viewr of matters, and charges that church infl was lrrouglit to bear. It says: Witlt all tlio employed by tho repub-lican party, amoa which weru church inllm tice, ooclesiae'ical HtnmpiiiLr, the cry of fn e whisky, aid Uin'hiu' tilth tnroaga their vehicle of rottea-4- , the democratic party lu I'rovo city ocorod a dulded victory. I This is clever, but up in Logan it is thej republicans that charge the demo-crats with using tho authority of the church in things political, fid the Nation. lew think of it: (MD votes wero cast yesterday for II. M. Wia.i.s, republican candidate for mayor in ISalt Lake! - i'rovo Jnquirer, I'eb. 9. This is the finest piece of sarcasm we naive yet seen. The official figures give II. M. 'Kl.l.s exactly 850 votes. VA sweet and gentle chorus may well resound all along the line," says the (Jgden Standard, commenting on the results of the elections in Salt Lake, I'rovo and Richmond. Had tho Stan-Har- d been in Salt Lake Monday night, it would have called it a shout of joy that will bo heard in the uttermost parts of tho land; yea, even in tho halls of the national capitol at Washington, Tho Ogden Standard says: "The Lo-ga- u Journal has come out by irresisti-ble inference in approval of the scheme which ,1. Randolph Tucker proposed for the government, or rather the of Utah. The Journal," it says, "is a cheerful and impudent sort Of a liar." , The republicans of I'rovo met with almost utter defeat, yet (he cheerful Enquirer says: "We are rejoicing over tho result." OF INTEREST TO BANKERS. Two important questions have iust been raised at tho ollico of tho comp-troller of the currency. Both are of unusually practical interest to-al- who have anything to do with national banks. They rolato to the signatures of managing bank officers upon circulat-ing notes ami the administration of tho oath t o thoso who certify to the condi-tion of banks from timo to time and in tho protesting of notes, drafts, etc. The other day a letter was received from tho west enclosing a 18 bank bill to which tho names of the president and cashier wero plainly attached by the use of a rubber stamp. The signatures were splendid fuc simileB but the ink was dim and tho outlines of the .stamp Works worn plain hi bo soon. Tho lottor stated that a largo issue of Ihoso notes had boon reooived by the writer, and all tho signatures wero as seen upon the sample. Iumiodialoly tlio officer! of the oomptroller's oflieo pronounood tho use of the Stamp unlawful, and they cited para-- I raph 51, section (5178 of tho national banking act, which says in relation to national bank notes, that they "shall bo attoslod by the signatures of tho presi-dent or vice president and cashier," and also paragraph 01, section 5183, which says of bank notes that they shall "bo signed by tho president or vioe president and cashier thereof in such manner as to make thetn obligatory promissory notes." ll is held by the comptroller's ollico that a legal signature can only be at-tached with tho hand, aud not-b- stamp or machine, and that a note signed with a stamp is an imperfect note. There-fore the bank notes signed by rubber Stamps, no matter how perfect, arc tho same as notes not bearing any signature they aro imperfect. There is no law, however, to punish this offense. Tho banks hating such notes outstanding will simply be re-quired to call them in and issue perfect signed notes in their stead. This will entail quite a loss to many banks, as it believed that there are. millions of these notes in csUtcuro signed by rubber 6tamps. An oritur will likrly bo issued prohibiting tho cirettlation of notes bearing these rubber stamp signatures and requiring all national banks them to send them hero for A bank ollicer iu Indiana wants to know whether as cashier, teller, book-keeper, or other oflitcr or employe iu national banks, ho Can aet as notary public for the bank. He sees no impro-priety m it so long as liu dues n it swear himself or pass directly upon his own acts. Thoro is no law or written rule on this subject, but tho ollico of the comptroller of the currency holds that it is a bad policy, indicating either pe-nurious or loose business methods for nnyono connected wila a bank to act as notary public in tho transaction of the bank's business, if for no other reason than tho notary must, necessarily in a measure at least, pass upon his own nets and responsibilities whenever ho attests tho oath of any ollicer of the bank ia connection with the bank's business. It would be highly improper l"or a director of a bank or any tffleer With discretionary or plenary powers to act as sucn notary public. Are Vou (ioinr Kast?
