Show THEIR ACTION IMPORTANT. We look upon the meeting of the board of directors of the chamber of commerce tonight at which is to be be considered the transportation question ques-tion as a most important conference and the action taken will be awaited with considerable of interest. There can be no question that the business men of Salt Lake have been most unjustly un-justly discriminated against in the matter mat-ter of freight rates; and to such an extreme ex-treme point has it been carried that it has made it unprofitable, if not impossible impos-sible for a certain class of jobbing trade to be done here. There is no reason that such a state of affairs should exist, and it need not be if a united endeavor is made to correct the evils which afllict us. Other localities have made the effort in their own be- half and have succeeded, aud the same results will follow here if the movement move-ment shall receive that unanimous support sup-port which is essential to victory in any cause. This city is the natural commercial center for the entire northwest, north-west, and all that is necessary to make it so is that it shall be treated with the same degree of fairness and favor which have made it possible for other cities to attain their present prestige. |
