A dispatch received re-ceived at noon confirms the report of the burning of the steamer Oliver Byrne, near Milwaukee's Bend, early this morning. Eight liMs are reported lost. The boat had on board S00 bales of cotton which wus totally to-tally destro-ed. St. Louis, Oct. 29. Fire was discovered in the cotton in the hold of the Oliver Bierne and the flames spread so rapidly that many of the crew and passengers had very narrow escapes. The list of those burned to death or drowned now runs up to thirteen as near as can be ascertained. They are as follows: A daughter of Mrs. Adam, of Omaha; Mrs. Frazers, a nurse ; live cabin boys; two col-ored col-ored chambermaids. A number of roustabouts roust-abouts are also missing. |
