Captain Smith says that if the plans already laid out are pursued, the lieck in a year's time will be one of the best developed mines in Utah. A rampa'to of IFelepment, Sir: )e the Tis't of tha bonrJ of direct-or-! of the Bullion-Bec- to1 Ktireka when it was determined to more active-ly develop the property, the working force has beon considerably increased. TrsiWia't Cun'j'iiVvt'oa of Bingbam Protiir'.iti ts SALT LAKE A EUELTIKQ CENTER To Devs'op tha Bnllioa Bck One Thonsand Foot LstsI of thi Eureka Hill General Mining News. Nothlnir that has ever happened is so liRuilieant to the welfsre of the miniug Interests of Utah, as the dispatches which give tho firnt details 0' th or-ganization of a company with lari;e capital to purchase aud develop a lure group of mines in liingham. Compre-hended In this gigantio venture is the formation of a combination to erect smelters and to practically control the load producing mines of this territory. At first thought the proposition seems almost too stupendous for tho human mind to grasp, it would appear as if no man could be found with the requisite ability and versatility to manage successfully such an enterprise, but in this day nothing is too large for nn aggregation of capital to undertake, providing the promises of suoh rewards are auflielsntly alluring. If Mr. Frank-lin is successful in enlisting capitalists to tako hold of his schemo on the basis on whioh he has foruiulatud it and bis chances for doing so soom ilattering, if not already assured it will be the lnrjer,t mining enterprise ever under-taken in this or any other coun'ry. What the results would be if such an immeiiso area of mineral territory owned and worked under 0110 manage-ment, with capital enough behind it to carry out a systematic plan, of development, there ought t be no doubt. it would be successful. Everything would be curried on on such a largo scale that the cost of production would be reduced to tho minimum. The mines which are Iraaitv owned and are to be acinired by the new syndicate are of known and recognized merit. Nearly all of them have already been developed to tho rank of large producers aud many of them have at this time immense reserves of ore iu sight. Ail that is necessary to make it profitable is that the mines should be supplied with more modern appliances for their working and that concentrators and smelters be provided for the economical eMiadiuu of the ore. When this is done aud it ought not te be a matter of more than a few months' time there is no question but that enough ore could he produced to keep a smelter of the larg-est capacity running constantly. With reference to the smelting branch of the proposition, that ought also to be a very prolitable one. It has boon inexplicable to all who have studied the situation here, that with every va-riety of ore and ilux necessary to suc-cessful smelting such a large percent-age of tho territory's production should be shipped away for trea'.meut. The men in this city, who are interested in formation of th;s big desl and who are familiar with the progress that has been made in the negotiations, y there is nothing in the statement "that it is the intention to organize a big trust to control all of the lead mines of the nest." It is simply an attempt to consolidate a large number of mines in the Bingham dielrict under one man-n- g iment, whirh will enable a company to work them more cheaply than could be done by individual owners. Tho claim that a successful consummation of the deal would make Salt Lake the smoiting center of the United States look like a reasonable one. Such a combination of mines ought to produce at least 10(10 tons of or a day, all of which would be turned into bullion in this valley. Looked at in any light, it is a most important transaction to Bingham and to this territory. Its result would be to create a wonderful revival in the min-inc- r interest, aud would bring millions of money h.t.e fur investment in the triiifc. Leeat and General. The Keystone is said to be getting some Tery rich ore on tho (00 level. Two hundred and twenty tons of ore and 104 tons of concentrates were hipped by the Crescent last week. J. A. Jefferson of l'ark City has in-vented a new style of concentrator for which he claims peculiar advantages. The work of setting the machinery and putting up the buildings on tbe Anchor is rapidly nearing completion. A distance of fc'OOO feet has bon run on the Ontario tunnel. The face is new in favorable ground and good progress is made. An electrician Las been examining the Ontario drain tunnel with a view of utili.ing the water power for electric lights and air drills. Sam Levy will make a visit to the South Ford this week in Big Cotton-wood. The tunnel is in 105 feet and shows a vein two and a half feet wide C. H. Lawrence is negotiating for the purchase of the liussell lixiviatlon psoccss to be used in a mill to he built expressly for tho treatment' of the Tintin ores. Mining men agree that if that if the report is true of the big syndicate the title to the Niagara group and other mines in liingham it will be a great thing for Salt Lake anil the whole of Utah. It would produce such an excitement as was never seen here. The l'ark City Mim r says work will commence this week on the erection of a refinery to treat the sulphides pro-duced from the ia!y or by the Marsac mill. The main building nill contain two furnni es, one for melting and the other for rousting. There is also to be a convenor for producing sulphuric acid used in disolving tho roasted rootle. If supplies cu be secured the building will be ready for business in a month. Mining-- Kxohaage. This was a very cheerful blue Mon-day on tho exchange. After the wild and uncombed proceedings of Saturday it was anticipated that business would react and that little if anything would be done today. Hut it was not so for the calls were roost satisfactory in every way. Bidding was lively, more so than the offers, the result being that 11,100 shares were sold. The principal thsme of conversation was the prospect of Kev. 1. A. 11. Frauklln being successful in the forma-tion of the big syndicate for tho pur-chase of some of Bingham's leading producers, and also for tho inaugurat-ing of the big smelting enterprise in this valley, the general opinion being that it was the most important piece of information iu a mining way that had beon made public this year. Eastern reports say that buyers are anxious to close at pres-ent quotations for future delivery, but refiners are very reluctant to sell more than small quantities, nnd those for cash, except at considerably higher fig-ures than those which now prevail. The firm condition of the lead market has greatly stimulated mining in all the districts of the west which produce that class of ore. |
