Weekly Minium Sammary. With last week the first half of the year closed. It is aluoat impossible, however, to arrive at anything like an accurate calculation of what the year's production will be. if, in the lad six months of the year, au equal produc-tion is made with the first half, the output of tho territory rill not mater-ially differ from that made in 18'JO. Last week was one of the best of the year for mining operations, all of the lead districts showing large pro-ductions ami considerable activity; this without any excitement in any partic-ular camp. The receipts of ore and bullion have been large and show a considerable increase over those of last week. No shipments were received from either the Dugway or the Fish Springs districts. Hingham made a most satisfac-tory showing and made its average production of approximately 1000 tons. Some good discoveries were msde, but most of them are on the old prop-erties. In Tiutio an amicable settlement of differences is reported to have been maHo between the mining companies and the Miners' union, ami also the news that the Iiullion-Hecs- : company will shortly increase their working force to 400 men and at the same time nearly double their production. The production of the Ontario for the week ending July lird was derivedfrom the sale of ore and 1:27,622.0;) in ilver bullion. The Dalv company sold ore to the amount of J20.P60.-J5- . Tha total ore and bullion receipts for the six months ending June 30, have beeu $4,H1, 241. The Daly has produced for the six months 41), divided between ore and sulphides. The Ontario for the same period has sold 465,577.111 fine ounces of silver and $;l;;;l.521.57 in ore sales. The shipments out of the territory in ore. bullion and matte for the six months hav been 31 ma cars. Shipment of Steal Rails for tL of the Railroad to Con-nect tba llinei With AEOUT THE BMELTINQ W0EK3 Tlis Weekly Mining Summary An Production Development of tlio Mines at PiocLe, Several hundred tons of steel rails are being ."hipped at this time by the i'ioche Mining and Reduction company for the narrow guago road. This road is being constructed by the company to connect their smelting works with their princi-pal producing mines, the distance being about twenty miles. It is ultimately intended, however, to extend this road over Bristol pass toward llico and Irish mcuutain, where are located some ex-tensive lead mines. The teams hauling these 1UII.S TO VUH HV., when they return to Milford, are loaded with ore as a back freight; the most of these shipments coming from the Onondago mine, which is being run by V. S. (iodbe, and is producing from forty to lifty tons of ore a day that pays a profit of toO a ton after all expenses have been paid. hkveum'ment ok the minks. At the present time, the company rep-resented by Mr. (iodbe is concentrating all its efforts on the development of a few mines, so as to produce the best re-sults. The principle mines being worked are thoss which yield high grade smelting. The chief of these are the Onoodago, The Day, Junction, Mendhn, Yuba and tho Half Moon group, in all of which there is such a class or ores as CAKKY TIIKIB OWN VLL'XM and make a combination most desirable for successful working. These ores are load, iron, lime, manganese and silic-iou-so separated as to be in almost the exact chemical proportions neces-sary to smelt. The Day, owned by this company, is considered to be the larg-est property above water level in the district, ltis simply A rilKNOUINAL MINE, having ore bodies of most unusual size, winch carry lime and irou ores and which run from 15 to SO ounces in silver, the whole mass being inter-spersed with seams of high grade lead ore. The vein on the Day is from forty to one hundred feet wide and has beeu proven to a depth of 11)00 feet. On its strike, it is not known how far tho ore chutes continue, but there is enough in sight now to guarantee a production of UK) tons a day without materially ellect-ici- f the quatiiy. NEKD OF A RAILROAD. This city needs this ore for fluxing,, and it would all come here if railroad transportation were only afforded. With it it would be possible for the smelting capacity to be doubled at least, aud such terms for treatment could be 0 tiered that no pother smelting center could successfully compute. If I'ioche only had a railroad, there is SCARCELY ANr ESTIMATE that could be made on its production which would be excessim. There is every variety of ore, milling, concen-trating and smelting. The Raymond & Ely and the Meadow Valley mines alone could yield enough to furnish a train load a day. The new smelting works are nearly completed. These are of the most modern design and will be COMPLETE IN KVK11Y DETAIL, and will hare a capacity of one hundred tons a day. Hut everything about the works is constructed w ith the design of increasing tho capacity to double that amount by simply increasing the num-ber of furnaces. This smelter will be liEAlir TO BLOW IN in the early part of next month. Two hundred men are now being worked in the mines, on the railroad and on the buildings for the smelter. It is the in-tention of the Pioche reduction com-pany to DAT KANf T I'lilCKS for all ores carrying a high percentage of lead, thus stimulating mining throughout the district as woll as the other districts which arc tributary to i'ioce, such as Jack Kabbit. There they seem to pause pos-sibly owing to the existence of a tine garden wiiosu owner has tilled it with choice plauts, the accumula-tion of the past seven years, and the expression of tiie knowledge of the adaptability of the plauts to this climate which he acquired during that time, at much labor ami expense. iiut the grasshoppers tlid not only Main street.
