Show The habit of calling up bitter expressions ex-pressions of tbe past in discussing present pres-ent political conditions bcre proves nothing ncl is entirely unprofitable We all rnow that the old factions here were biuerly bitter toward each other. We all knovr that they indulged in every form of denunciation each of the other. We all know that such political conditions condi-tions as hare existed hero begat charges and counter eharg.s of fraud, corruption corrup-tion and violence. We all know that in the intensity of such a struggle much is said and done by all parties that will not bear the closest scrutiny. The history his-tory of the past is fixed; but if the feelings feel-ings under which that history was enacted are to be maintained as guides of action we can never have any brighter bright-er experience in the future. Whether it be today, tomorrow or next year or the year after, that all should join the new order of things, the change must carry with it an abandonment of all such standards. The line of argument based on old bitternesi is entirely fruitless. fruit-less. Nothing is proved by it and it simply belittles all who are parties to it. |
