Show TIED UP BY A STRIKE. A Dispatcher's Discharge Causes a Strike on tha Chicago A hrie. Chicago, Jan. 21. The Chicngo & Erie railway has a serious strike on hand, the strikers being conductors and dispatchers. A month ago Dispatcher Scott at Huntington, Ind., made a serious se-rious mistake in giving an order, which was discovered in time to prevent a serious wreck. He was discharged, but on the other dispatchers threatening to strike the company changed the sentence sen-tence to thirty days' suspension. Now, it is alleged by the conductors and dispatchers, dis-patchers, Scott has been dismissed outright, out-right, and they notified the general manager of tho strike. General Manager Tucker of the Chicago Chi-cago & Erie road, admitted this morning morn-ing that the road was practically tied up by the striko of the train dispachers. The only train that went out this morning morn-ing was the mail for Columbus, Ohio. Outside of the New York train and one or two freight trains everything is tied up on this division of the road, extending extend-ing to Salamanca, N. Y. Bckfai.o, Jan. 21. The superintendent superintend-ent of the Erie road in this city said that nothing was known of the striko reported from Chicago and extending to Salamanca. Ho said the strike was not likely to affect the main line east of Salamanca or between Buffalo and New York. Chicago. Jan. 21. Manager Tucker declares that Scott, the Huntington, Indiana, train dispatcher, discharged for direliction of duty, to enforce whose reinstatement the strike on the Erie road was begun, will not be taken back under any circumstances. Chicago, Jan. 21. A special dispatch dis-patch to the News from Fort Wayne, Ind., says that the train dispatchers and conductors' strike on the Chicago and Erie roads has tied up the road at that point and only passenger trains are running. Terrk Hacte, Ind., Jan. 21 Grand Maeter Sargent of the brotherhood of liremcn said this afternoon that he had given no order for the strike of the firemen on the Chicago and Erie. |
