Show THE ALLIANCE CONGRESSMEN. What will thalr Court ba whan tha Next Ilonsa Ansetnbles. Washington, Jan. 21. There continues con-tinues to be much interest felt in congressional con-gressional circles as to what course, as a body, the alliance members of the next house will take on proposed legislation legis-lation generally; whether tbey will vote with the republicans or the democrats; whether they will hold caucuses, make separate stands upon leading topics of discussion, etc. It appears to be the prevailing opinion that they will not attempt at-tempt to lead either party, but create their own measures and vote independently independ-ently of all parties. The alliance members will be too far below a plurality control to attempt to achieve anything by caucus action in tha way of organization, and it will naturally be in their bent to antagonize the majority of the democrats. They can unquestionably accomplish some of their purposes if they make propositions, proposi-tions, but they tan hope for nothing short of democratic lines as the committees com-mittees will all be organized by the democrats and it will be impossible to get any measure before the house which the democratic speaker does not favor. It therefore looks as if the alliance members will, this time at least, prove figureheads if not democratic allies. |
