The department de-partment of state is informed that the rumors that the Brazilian government does intend to carry out tho recent reciprocity re-ciprocity agreement with the Uuitep States is discredited by the action of the authorities at Rio de Janiero, in issuing instructions to tho officials throughout the country concerning the free admission admis-sion of merchandise from the United States. On motion of Solicitor Goff, the supreme su-preme court dismissed the appeals of the forty-five Chinamen, whoso return to China was ordered, because the records in tho cases were not printed. Twelve of these cases remain, and two of them have been re assigned far argument argu-ment on tho first Monday of next April. The decision in all twelve will be governed gov-erned by the decision iu these two cases. COMMISSIONER GROFF'8 RESIGNATION. Judge Lewis A. Grolf, commissioner of the general land office, said last night he had tendered his resignation to the president about thirty or forty days ago, to take effect today. His resignation resigna-tion has not yet been accepted. |
