Show ABSURD CAME LAWS OF ILLINOIS. Sportsman Taking aa Active Interest la Harlot Th.ut Krpealed. Chicago, Feb. 12. Special to Thk Timks. The Illinois state sportsmen association hold a meeting at the Sherman Sher-man house today for the purpose of considering and deciding upon such changes in the game laws as appeared to the members to be necessary. The game laws of this state are not satisfactory satis-factory to sportsmen. By a mistake of the engrossing clerk the prairie chicken season begins Sept. 13 instead of Sept. 1, cs passed by the legislature, but the attorney-general decided wheu appealed ap-pealed to, that he was compelled to accept ac-cept the measure signed by the governor. gov-ernor. Tho present law is absurd in tho length of tim,e allowed for the sale of game, and i tltt fact that it prohibits the sale of game in tho Mate. Thus while the quail season ends December 1st iu the state, game dealers are allowed al-lowed to sell quail killed iu other states up to February 1st. This is simply putting put-ting a premium upon the violation of the law, for a quail killed in Illinois can not be distinguished from those killed in Indiana, Iowa or other states. Another matter w hich came before the meeting was the bill introduced into the senate by Scuutor Bass to do away with pigeon shooting at thu trap. This bill has created a panic among the local sportsmen. Chicago is the trap center of the west, and if this bill were passed it would prove the death blow to a number of projected trap-shooting trap-shooting schemes. |
