Show TUEY WENT TO OGDEN A Hundred and Fifty Salt Lakers Odd Fellows the Guests of the Ogden Lodges. A HANDSOME ENTERTAINMENT' The New Temple Dedicated with Appropriate Appro-priate Ceremonies A Ball and Banquet. Ogden yesterday belonged to the Odd Fellows. The invading army consisted of Salt Lakers, and never were invaders in-vaders more tenderly treated or royally entertained. The lodges here received invitations about two weeks ago to attend the dedication ded-ication of the new temple nt Ogden in a body, ami decided to go that way. As Salt Lake people never do things by halves, they went in a large body. The special train which had been chartered from the Union Pacific to take them up carried three coaches, and all were comfortably full at 3 o'olock when the train moved out of the yard. Among the crowd were many ladies, accompanying accom-panying husbands or frieuds. - There were Mrs. Newell, Mrs. Pendleton,' Pen-dleton,' Mrs. Emms, Miss Emms, Mrs. Farnswortu, Mrs. Schmidt, Mrs. White, Mrs. Hilgert, Mrs. Douovan, Mrs. Gorsbach, Mrs. Kass, Miss Davis, Mrs. Reed, Mrs. Loutzenhizer and others. Then there were IM members of the order. Tbe ride through the beautiful Salt Lako valley was a pleasant one. Tbe Union Pacific company had provided ' comfortable coaches, and tho ride was quickly made. At Ogden the visitors were saluted with au overture by the Ogden citizens' band, and forming on the platform in double column, headed by tho band they marched up town to the bull. After a short rest they dispersed to meet in tho evening. Tno programme for the evening opened at o'clock, and probably over 500 people were present.' Tbe hall was uncomfortably crowded. J D. Hind of Ogden read a history of the order in that city, aud told of the difficulties which it bad overcome before be-fore it could have a home of its own. lie greeted the visitors, welcomed them to the city, and turned over the ball to them. Grand Master Whitely replied In a neat speech, complimenting the Ogden lodges upon the beauty of their hall and upou the effectiveness of their work for the upbuilding of the order in the citv. This speech was followed by the Impressive Im-pressive ceremonies of dedication, in charge of Grand Master Whitely and the grand lodge. Grand Secretary Thomas took the platfoim and iu a few well chosen words presented to the Ogden lodges a handsome Hag, the gift of the Salt Lake men. The recently elected mayor, Mr. Turner, was loudly called upon for a speech of acceptance and he made a good one. He insisted that the Salt Lake people were continually dealing in surprises, but that the tables would be turned when the Ogden people come down next fall to help dedicate their new temple. The remainder of the programme consisted of music and recitations which wore all excellent and greatly enjoyed by the hearers. About 11 o'clock the doors were opened and baskets of sandwiches, cake and other eatables were passed around until the refreshment of the inner man was thoroughly accomplished. The crowd broke up aud separated into groups for purposes of amusement, but in this they were thwarted. The committee com-mittee had engaged tho Union theater for dancing and to that place the crowd repaired aud danced till 2 a. m. Then, tired and exhausted, but well content with the night's festivities, they took carriages for the train and started for home. |
