At 9 45 this morn-' ing the boiler of the Quebec worsted company' factory at Hare Point exploded, ex-ploded, completely demolishing the engine house and about half of the fac-', tory. A large number of hands wer killed, thirty bodies having been removed re-moved up to the last accouut. The buildings of the Quebec Worsted company, where the explosion occurred, oc-curred, are situated in the northeastern outskirts of the city. They had been closed down for two weeks while the boilers and machinery were being overhauled over-hauled and refitted and operations were resumed this morning. About 3 o'clock operative! were on hand. About 9 o'clock there was a sudden explosion which completely wrecked the engine en-gine house and dye house and damaged a large part of the main building. build-ing. A great crowd gathered immediately, imme-diately, and the work of rescue commenced. com-menced. The fire brigade was called out, but fortunately the debris did not catch lire. As great confusion prevails it is impossible im-possible to get a list of the killed and injured until the ruins be thoroughly examined. About twenty bodies have already been taken from the wreck, |
