Show A MAN OF MANY DEATHS. On of th Most Noted Swindler la th 1 Country Arrested, Prescott, A. T., Oct. 11. Under Sheriff Molnerney yestorday lodged In jail here one of tho most noted swindlers swindl-ers in the southwest. He goes by the name of James M. Wilson, alias Matthews, Matth-ews, alias Holley, alias Maddison. His Jieouliar vocation has been to swindle ife insurance companies. His first venture ven-ture was in Arkansas some vears ago, when he blew up the cottage" in which he lived. The explosion occurred prematurely pre-maturely and as a result he was severely severe-ly injured and now wears a largo silver plate on top of bis head. His supposed body was found in the wreck and was buried by his sorrowing widow, who recovered the amount of bis life insur-rnoe insur-rnoe policy. In 1888 be located In Dona Ana county coun-ty N. M., with a wife who was a boauti-' ful young woman, immediately took out a life insurance policy for $10,000. A few months after receiving the policy fishing excursion was organized on the Rio Grande, and Wilson was reported repor-ted drowned. The suspicions of the Insurance Insur-ance companies were aroused and an Investigation commenced, when Wilson's Wil-son's wife and other confederates became be-came alarmed and fled the country. Large rewards were offered for their arrest, and some of the best detectives In the country joined In search of them. During a recent visit to Jerome, Under Sheriff Mclnerney Identified Wilson there and mado the arrest. |
