Show . When the Curfew Flourishes. Those who are fortunate enough to live in the shadow of Battle abbey still enjoy the exceptional privilege of hearing hear-ing the curfew every night from Christmas Christ-mas to Epiphany, the eves of saints' days only excepted. Lately it has been found necessary to rehrng the valuable and ancient bells, and Dean Crake appeals ap-peals to the public to subscribe 200 for expenses necessary to allow the Battle abbey curfew to continue to "toll the knell of parting day." The curfew also flourishes at HaatingB, where it booms forth nightly from the fourteenth century cent-ury tower of St. Clement's church. London World. |
