O poldeo rod I sweet golden rod I Brido of the Autumn Sim! lion be ktssud thy blossoms this mellow morn, And tinged tbem oue by one Did the crickets sing nt thy christening, v When in his warm embrace lie Knye thee love from bis fount above, And beauty and cheer aid grace? He brightens the asters, but soon they fado; He reddens the sumach tree; And the clematis loses its Bunny bloom, But he's true as truth to thee. Sci ctcred on mountain top or plain, t Unseeu by human eye, He turns thy fringe to burnished gold By love's sweet alchemy.
