Several Sev-eral weeks ago pretty and winsome Laura Culver disappeared from her parental home on Williams street. She was but 15 years of ago, but bright and intelligent. For some time past sin-had sin-had complained to her father of beim perplexed by the attentions of a Strang' man. Tho girl said that he appeared tr cxerciso an influence over her, and th.i she was afraid of him. The parcm paid but little attention to her con-plaint, con-plaint, until one day several weeks a j she disappeared. Inquiries among the neighbors developed devel-oped the fact that a strange man hai stood iu front of tho house and shortly afterwards the littlo girl came out, and. as if asleep, had walked away with him. The neighbors' attention had been attracted by the man and they were positive he had not said anything, and wero unable to account ac-count lor Laura's going with him. Mr. Culver then remembered the girl's statement, and gavo tho police a description de-scription of the man. After a two weeks' search the detectives succeoded in locating the man and girl in a house on Highland Park. They arrested the man, who gave tho name of Richard Adams, but refused to give further information. in-formation. The girl was still in a stupid stu-pid condition and did not appear to realize what was going on. Physicians were summoned and succeeded iu arousing her from tho spell. They examined ex-amined the girl and found that she had been assaulted. The girl states that she knows nothing of what happened after she left home until she returned two weeks later. The physicians, in view of these circumstances', pronounce t he case one of hypnotism. |
