Show PARLEY WILLIAMS RETIRES. : liuslncss Transacted by the School Board at Last Night's Meeting. The school board met last night. After Af-ter the reading of the minutes of the last meeting. Mr. Williams stated that the court had decided that Mr. Young had been elected while he had not. It was a decision which he should not contest. con-test. He desired that his name be erased eras-ed from tho rolls. He had expected to bring Mr. Young with him, but the latter lat-ter had declined to do so becauso of the fact that he had 110 record from the court, lie tbauked the board for its courtesy and for tho many honors bestowed be-stowed and asked tho same consideration consider-ation for his successor that had been shown him. Mr. Pypor moved a vote of thanks to Mr. Williams and he then retired. The applications of L. C. Edwards for the position (if music teacher and of Misses Mitchcner and Youngberger for the position of assistant teachers, were referred to tho committee on employment employ-ment of teachers. Orson Howard, one of the board of examiners, resigned on account of leaving leav-ing the city for a time. His resignation was accepted. ' ' . . , In regard to the petition for a school at Eldorado, the clerk was instructed to inform the petitioners that that place was outside of the city limits and that no action could be taken. The committee on sites reported that abstracts for all 'but two of the city st'hoollots havo been received, and the titles to tho 1st, 5th, 7th, 8th, and 16th districts have been examined and found correct. In the matter of the site for the old 15th district the committee recommended re-commended the purchase ot lot 8 in block 50, plat B, at a price not td exceed ex-ceed $12,000. Tho committee recommended recom-mended that action bo taken on the sale of the old site in tho 15th district, in order that funds to apply on the purchase pur-chase of a new site may be obtained. It was decided to rent rooms .from William Husband on Eighth South, at $30 per month, and from Bishop Allen in the Twenty-fifth ward at $15 per month. The proposition of William G. ('iarry to fix up the upper story of the Twentv-tirst ward school building for $2lit by Sept. 20, was accepted. The committee on school furniture was authorized to purchase a car load of school seats for the various school houses in the-city. The committee on general supplies reported as follows in relation to the salaries of janitors: That G. M. D. Brown has resigned while F. P. Botham has applied for the janitorship of the Twenty-third ward at a sahiry of $15 per month. That the janitors of all schools except the Eleventh, Twelfth and Sixteenth districts who live on the grounds be not furnished with coal. Appended to the report was a recommendation recom-mendation that janitors be employed by contract. This report was adopted, excepting the clause in reference to contracts. The superintendent was authorized to make temporary assignments of teachers. Mr. Nelson was nominated for vice-president of the board, but no action was taken last night. |
