Show THE BOUNTY ON SUGAR. Commissioner Mason Is Little Perplexed About How to Proceed. Washington, Oct. 28. Commissioner Commission-er of Internal Revenue Mason says that he was very much perplexed as to the methods of carrying out the sugar bounty provisions of the. tariff bill. He is consulting all sources of information in-formation and . states very frankly frank-ly that he will be grateful to anyone any-one who Will ' suggest some method which the internal revenue do-pariment do-pariment can apply in the awarding of counties. It has been suggested that every farmer should send to Washington Washing-ton or some other station to be selected in the sugar beet raising countries samples sam-ples of sugar to be tested and a statement state-ment of the amount raised. But these little tests will be impracticable, impractic-able, and be does not see any other remedy . but to devise some means by which the agents of the bureau bu-reau will be able to travel from farm to farm and test the sugar on the spot, and thereupon award the amount of bounty. The Internal revenue bureau has called on the state department tor information from our consuls in the sugar raising countries abroad, where bounties are awarded, for the methods pursued in awarding bounties. |
