Show THE DAY IN THE COMMONS. Tha Opposition Objects but Smith's Motion is Carried. London. Nov. 28. In the commons today W. H. Smith, government leader, moved that "government business be given priority until tho Christmas holidays. It was proposed, be said, to bring up tho Irish land bill for second reading on Tuesday. This announcement brought out a chorus of "Ohs" from the opposition. opposi-tion. La Boueherie protested the rights of private members were being wrenched away from them Gladstone insisted that the opposition was entitled to demand a further and fuller .statement of the government's proposed course of action regarding tho time of the house after the 'Christmas 'Christ-mas holidays. Dr. Tanner, national, accused the government of false and diserodiblo ' conduct regarding the promises of the Irish legislation. After further debate Smith's motion was carried 223 to 17JJ. |
