A special from Pine Itidge says: "The beef issue passed oil yesterday without any exeit-lug exeit-lug features, and l'.K) steers were turned loose. Hawk Head and Big Horse, reliable re-liable Indian policemen have readied the agency with tho news that their families had been stolen by a band of 200 Indians, that had deserted from the Kosebud agency a few hours before, and rushed off to join 1300 other Indian deserters who are now only fifteen miles north of the Pine Ridge agency. ' When Hawk Head and Rig Horse discovered their families were missing, they immediately set out iu pursuit of the deserters. The latter refused to give up the families. Policemen begged 'and entreated the deserters to givo them back their wives and children, but only got curses and threats of their lives. Iiefore they got away from the blind members of the latter said ' "Go tell the soldiers at Pine Kidgo that wo aro part of 1!MK) other Rosebud Indians, now near Pine Ridge, and from now on we are going to kill every white person we meet, and if the soldiers come we are ready for them. It is predicted by the Hec correspondent correspond-ent that within thirty-six hours troops will be ordered to disarm or shoot down the marauders, and when the troops do sturt after them tlio end will be no Custer n flair. The move will undoubtedly be made under cover of darkness and by 11 forced inarch. The attack and linish will both occur between the rising and setting of the moon. The belief is prevalent among old frontiersmen that the Indians are concentrating their forces and supplies near the entrauce to tho Bad Lands. Misleading ltcport. New York, Nov. 28. A Philadelphia special says Dr. V. E. MoGillicuddy, former Indian agent at Pine Ridge, telegraphs tele-graphs Herbert Welsh: "Tho newspaper newspa-per reports of tho Pine Ridge situation are misleading. Matters are now under control, with a peaceable eliding in view. I remain here for the present." |
