Show A BISHOP'S DtX'LAK.VTlON. He Will Have to Know Mors About Married Mar-ried Meu. London, May 23. Special. The declaration of the bishop of Litohlield that he will not for tho future ordain married men as curates unless they are possessed of substantial private means, lias caused consternation among the candidates for the church, and a strong movement is on foot to induce him lo reconsider his decision. Many of the younger sous of noblemen now enter the church but the patronage at the disposal of their relatives is not sufficient suffi-cient to place all of them in luxurious livings, and therefore they liud themselves them-selves condemned to life long celibacy if the bishop can not be induced to recede re-cede from the stand ho has taken. The bishop's action is defended on the grouud that he desired to protect the laity who were taxed beyond endurance endur-ance for tho support of poor ministers. |
