Show ahe THE DALTON AND LARK in former years yearn almost without exception the big lealand lead lea dand and silver producers of west mountain district were found on the west side of bingham canyon the exceptions being the old Tord anfe galena and the old telegraph mines and also the spanish mine all three of which are in a line and on the same ore zone or belt which is undoubtedly an extension of the vein which has made the brooklyn so famous as a wealth producer in the past and which has given such prominence to the great quartzite zone zone in the western portion of this wonderfully rich and prolific district the estimated value of the output of the three mines first mentioned being as follows the old jordan old telegraph and the sp spanish anish mine among the fir first at and most prolific producers on the west side of the district were the brooklyn and the old lead mines from which many thousands even millions were taken and for years there was wonderful wo activity in the immediate vicinity of these producers and stirring scenes there were w 6 r e witnessed until the heavy slump in silver and lead quotations seven or eight years na W P f 17 1 4 ia Q 4 DALTON AND LARK HOIST AND concentrator ago when the mines were closed down and silence reigned where heretofore an army of men had found profitable employment hardly five years a ago 6 however a big consolidation soli dation was effected in the locality mentioned the deal embracing some of the most productive mines in the district the consolidated properties forming the basis for the incorporation af 0 f the dalton lark gold silver lead mining milling company the mines included in the transaction being as follows The Brooklyn group U nine claims cover I 1 ungsoo feet ot oi the famous brooklyn lode the dalton orleaf or lead mine group of twelve claims covering an equal distance on the ledge the lark group of three claims embracing 2300 feet of the vein and the keystone group of four claims which takes in 2000 feet of this great mineralized zone in addition to which the company has ground in bingham canyon rich in its gold placer deposits the entire holdings of the association covering in the neighborhood of acres in the heart of one of the richest portions of the district soon after the incorporation of the company one of the concentrating plants embraced in the of the was de str oyei ad by fire an attempt was made to mine below water level but the pumps at the mines were found to be inadequate for the work so that with the low prices ruling the lead and silver market the company was forced to suspend heavy operations the work in hand being largely confined to the upper levels of the dalton and lark mines so that for the past three or four years the company has not much more than paid expenses notwithstanding that its mines were among th the e best to be found in the camp during the past year however with the marked advance in lead quotations quotation s and the 5 decided gains recorded in copper the universal preference given to bingham properties by outside investors and the wonderful popularity suddenly acquired by the district at large the dalton and lark could hardly escape the eagle eyes of heavy operators the result being that it was tied up about eight or ten months ago by an eastern syndicate who put P T farnsworth in charge of the property for the purpose of carrying out extensive development work which was at once inaugurated suitable sinking pumps were at once installed and ever since exploitation has been pushed on the deepest levels and THE is results as large and ne new w bodies of ore have been disclosed in both the dalton and the lark ledges the mineral carrying good values in gold silver and lead and paying values in copper the presence of the latter in large quantities speaking volumes for the future of the enterprise a as s it is the red metal that is now so much inde in demand by prospective mine purchasers and also the backbone of the mining industry at the present presen t time the option held by the eastern r syndicate it isolean is learned ned expired several days ago and the management of the property turned overto president J schenck but this does not imply that the deal is off as it is understood that it yet may be although with the satisfactory conditions now disclosed in the mines the company is not particularly ticul arly anxious for its transfer at the present time the dalton and lark is ia connected with the R G W railroad in bingham canyon by a horse tramway which is several miles in length so that there is an easy and inexpensive outlet for ore shipments while it is not at all difficult to get in all kinds of supplies ON PAGE EIGHT THE DALTON AND LARK I 1 CONTINUED FROM PAGE FIVE another feature of importance connected with the operation of the consolidated mines being the fact that the bingham tunnel company i is now boring into the mountain in the direction of the dalton and lark mines for the purpose pose of giving complete drainage to this section of the country as well as a better thoroughfare for the shipment of ores to the valley below the completion of this gigantic enterprise being of such a nature that the mines can be easily worked at a great depth while operating expenses will will be reduced ajro whether or not the dalton and lark forms the basis for another big sale for JB Bine ingham 11 the fact still remains that a bright future is in store for this magnificent property and it is believed that it will not be long now before it once again joins the rank of the heavy producers of the old reliable |
