| Show developments IN OREGON MINES SPECIAL correspondence I 1 grants pass ore july 8 since the taking over of the blue ledge copper mine the oregon califor on upper applegate near nia line the rush into that section has increased there are fully men on the upper applegate at present the greater number being located on claims in and around the blue ledge some rich strikes in copper have been made in the district most of the crowd goes in by way of jacksonville on the southern oregon side blue ledge camp is thirty five miles from jacksonville A company of spokane mining men which has extensive interests in the blue ledge district is preparing to build a custom smelter on joes bar the plant will treat the ores of all the mines of the district and will be located at the end of the line of the proposed railroad into the district from medford or jacksonville one of the biggest and richest ledges found in the blue ledge district was uncovered a few days ago by roy wilson a miner of that section it his has a width of feet and carries very fair values in copper and gold with a trace of silver the big ledge has been opened in several places and can be traced for fully two miles it will be thoroughly developed the hot weather of june brought an end to all hydraulic operations in southern oregon nearly all of the mines have made their final cleanup clean up and most of the gold his been shipped to the mint or sold at the banks the output of vir virgin in gold this season from southern ore oregon on will fall short of which is considerably below the average output the decrease is due to the light rains of winter and to the tardy beginning very few mines being able to start their giants till january fully two months behind time about fifty ounces of pure platinum are reported mined from the various districts the greater part of the rare metal came from the deep gravel placers of waldo where a special effort was mac made e to save it A lar large e hydraulic property is being developed and equipped on lower rogue river fifty miles below grants pass by the euchre creek mining company of los angeles of which charles W mills is president and general manager mr mills has a number of california mining men associated with him they prospected the remote and isolated lower rogue district this past winter and were struck with the richness of the bars and channels along the river many of which have never been touched with the miners shovel the euchre creek company was organized and has purchased and located several rich claims on euchre creek hydraulic machinery and placer mining equipment has been ordered and will be placed as soon as it arrives ditches are under construction to bring water from euchre creek and the new mine will be ready to begin 9 work this winter lower rogue is the most isolated mining district in oregon and for this reason has been the le least ast prospected the ton smelter at takilma Ta kilma on the waldo copper mines was blown in for the summer this mouth month the smelter will be operated as long as freighting can be done over the forty five miles of mountain wagon road between takilma and grants pass manager walter of the takilma company expects a good summers run from the splendid body of ore uncovered in the queen of bronze this past winter the queen ot of bronze can alone supply all needed ore for the plant the waldo smelting smelling Sm elting mining company which has an interest in me smelter also has a number of good properties near takilma Ta kilma the california oregon coast railroad which has its final survey made and right of way secured and which proposes to build from grants pass pasa to takilma Ta kilma will this summer build about fifteen miles of the line the old blackwell hill mines of gold hill district were sold recently to colonel A S pennington and associates of fort worth werth texas for a lar large lare e consideration colonel pennington and his lone star star friends have acquired extensive mining in teresta in southern ore oreon oregon on during the past four years but intend to concentrate their principal efforts on the blackwell hill this property comprises acres of patented ground highly mineralized and well developed colonel pennington has placed a crew and will shape the properties for operation on an extensive scale DENNIS H STOVALL |
