put most of the men from the pueblo on the road that is to be built jointly by his company and the penn idaho company to connect with the state road it is difficult to do much work on the mine until a hoist can be put in and that cannot be taken to the mine until the road is built mr friar will soon meet mr mccoy president of both companies at denver or salt lake for the purpose of purchasing the proposed mills for the two mines halley hailey times the johnson concentrator ordered by C C for his dollarhide mill was shipped from san francisco day before yesterday and a tracer was sent after it this morning the rubber belt how ever will be shipped from the east by express as it cannot be got in san francisco just now it is a huge endless affair being six fe feet et wide nade twenty four feet long and lipped over on each side mr is very fortunate in getting his concentrator so soon after ordering this could not have been but for the courtesy of samuel newhouse the famed mining man who kindly instructed the manufacturers now working upon his order for 1500 of the concentrators to let mr have the first one that could be got ready wallace mines and metals shipments were commenced last week from the bluebird mine located on blacktail mountain on pend darielle dO lake A barge of ore taken from the development workings which it is stated will average between 75 and per ton was shipped to the smelter at sand point other shipments will be made with more or less regularity from now on the barge of ore from the bluebird was but one of many which have been unloaded at the sandpoint standpoint Sand point smelter during the past thirty days there is a large amount of ore now at the smelter and more is continually being brought in judging from this and from the fact that a large amount of coke and coal oal is at the smelter it is believed that the furnaces will be blown in at no late date I 1 mackay miner col N J sharp of halley hailey came in last friday bringing with him the well known spokane capitalist W H plumer and a mining expert of the same city whom he had interested in the copper basin mining district the gentlemen were shown over the property by abe pearce who has an interest in some of the claims in that district the party left here saturday morn morning ing and spent two days in that country going over the ground very carefully and taking many samples from the different workings upon their return to this city mr plumer signed a bond which is to give him possession of the property for two years the lease calls for operation there within the next ninety days and is to pay one fourth of the bond at the end of the first year spokesman review only three weeks more and the once famous frisco mine at gem ida will be working full blast announces one of the head employed emp loyes of the company at that time the company will commence work sinking a foot shaft from its 2000 foot level and before long the frisco long dormant will te be once more on a dividend paying basis on february I 1 of this year the great undertaking of mg ing the big mine was begun and today el El who has charge of the apparatus said that three weeks more will finish the work the water is down to feet from the bottom of the mine and is being lowered as fast as the two 1000 gallon bailing tanks can handle it owing to the great in the frisco this un unwavering watering process has proven a tremendous undertaking the company installed two great steam pumps but they cannot be worked profitably in connection with the bailing tanks as the steam steam is condensed by the water before it reaches the point where its work lies and the tanks accomplish more than the pumps would so the big pumps are idle challis messenger T J kerr returned one day last week from parker mountain where he had been looking after mining claims in which he is interested he brought in three ore samples from a 45 foot drift in the ed williams cl claim aim which he had assayed in the challis assay office which resulted as follows no I 1 gold silver 1853 total no 2 amounted to 20 and sample no 3 went these were very good samples indeed but the whole ledge is high grade ore in some places the ledge is two and a half feet wide and again narrows down to a few inches this group of claims is under bond to an ohio company who at present is working a small force of men at the parker roup group which is under bond to goss bros and utah parties work is also being pushed by a small force of men the parker has a good ledge of high grade ore and the best grade is being sacked and will soonbo soon be shipped to salt lake outside of the two companies above mentioned very little work is being done in the camp although therease there ther eare are a hundred or more locations there the
