boise capital news george leighton the well known mining men returned yesterday from a visit to big creek he says that is the coming mining section of this country he said he never saw in any country such vast ore bodies while there mr leighton saw the big strike made on the yellow jacket ground at the head of big creek in profile gulch he said a ledge of high grade ore four feet in thickness was like every other mining man who visits the camp he is enthusiastic over its prospects he says that if such showings were anywhere else mining men would be falling over each other in their attempts to get hold of and work the properties he has sent some samples to pendleton and expects to succeed in organizing a company to develop one or more of the properties we have extolled the vir mines of this camp so long jong that it seems a waste of time to repeat them we have the making of one of the best camps in the united states but when boise statesman george Z edwards manager of the lincoln mine at pearl is in from the camp he reports that good progress is being made in erecting the cyanide plant for the property the floors of all the tanks have been put together and the staves will be in place in a short time there are fifteen of these tanks in all and they cover a large space the materials are all on the ground but a few pieces of machinery are yet on the road only a little work is being done on the mine this being confined to the east end of the property where considerable ore has been opened this work is in a tunnel it is now opening entirely new ground and seems to be coming into a new ore shoot hailey times C C came down from ketchum yesterday to let a contract to haul ore from his dollarhide group of mines he has shipped a carload every other day during the past few weeks but wants to ship a carload every day from now on this is not because he wants to force shipments as much as to get the ore out of the way at the mine as he has no facilities for storing a large quantity and he is pushing work on his concentrating mill as rapidly as possible but unless he moves his ore to the railroad it will have to be re handled at extra cost the dollarhide mine is showing up finely there being six feet of solid ore in the face of the main working drift very little ore is being stopped what is shipped coming mainly from the development drifts raises and cross cuts there are now over tons of ore in sight in the property weiser signal councilman E W wing of lewiston is in receipt of a letter from his daughter mrs C 0 dark clark in which the writer states that a strike recently made on the holy terror claim owned by mr dark clark and bert stewart has resulted in much excitement in the big creek district the importance of the strike was not realized until the assays essays of the ore taken from a twenty five foot ledge were received says one report this assay showed the ore to carry values of in silver and 5 in gold to the ton the ore is so rich that the silver is visible to the naked eye when blistered A large number of claims have been taken in the vicinity of the strike and by many the discovery is looked upon as one of the most important ever made in idaho county the big creek section has recently been attracting a great deal of attention and the new strike will give the camp additional dit ional prominence |
