| Show NEW ERA tonopah is prepa preparing ring for a big celebration the occasion will be the driving of the gold and silver spike the last act which will connect the great gold camp with the outer world with bands of steel the date has not been set for this most important event event but it will probably be about july 1 the spike to be used has been finished and the metal it contains was made of bullion from the mizpah mine the scene of the first discovery in the camp where jim butler found the ledge which may yet become as great as the fa Com comstock the spike is of the ordinary size and bears the inscription tono pah railroad 1904 this indeed will be a great occasion for the citizens of tonopah To for it will mark the beginning of a new era in that camp it will mean the starting of the mines upon an extensive scale the early construction of mills and reduction works for the treatment of the lower grade ores which have not been marketable heretofore an n account of the great expense of transportation por tation it will wiil only be a matter of a short until a branch will be built into goldfield and other camps truely that portion of nevada has a great future and the mines will respond with millions in wealth ton pah opah is destined to become the center of one of the greatest mining regions the world has ever known |
