| Show eastern oregon gold fields correspondence 1 p l onda sumpter ore june 2 fred D fuller of new york arrived here this week to take the management of the oregon smelling smelting Sm elting refining company owner and operator of the sumpter smelter accompanying mr fuller was charles kirchen formerly of the united states mining company of salt lake city who is to have superintendence per of the plant under mr fullers management both are experienced and practical smelter men mr fuller was here last winter at the instance of the eastern stockholders in the matter of investigating the situation with reference to reporting on an ore purchasing fund asked for by the local management after making an exhaustive examination of the plant as to its adaptability to the treatment of the ores of the district and the mines as to the quantity and quality of the ores produced he unhesitatingly recommended the fund asked at a recent meeting of the stockholders held in milwaukee mr fuller was appointed general manager of the company in the place of dr ed W mueller who has been anxious to resign for some time the smelter is a killen warner stewart promotion with which mr mueller has been identified since the enterprise was first launched now that the institution has been successfully organized and financed he feels called upon to leave the operation to more practical and technical smelter men and besides this he is connected with other important enterprises which claim much of his time it will be a question of only a short time until the smelter will again be in operation mr fuller is busy getting things in shape for work but he has not yet announced the date of beginning the test run made last winter proved the thorough efficiency of the plant manager L R bellman of the california returned a few days ago from minneapolis where he went to confer with his associates mr bellman brought with him A P F kuehn a metallurgist who is to investigate the mill practice of the california with a view to effecting a higher saving mr bellman himself will leave in a short time tor for the copper river country alaska where the turnagain arm people are also extensively interested in mining operations he will return some time in august during his absence dr S M moulton of minneapolis an officer of the company will have charge of the property mr bellman states that the california mill will be started just as soon as the cable cove roads are in condition to get in supplies which probably will be in the very near future captain A M paul manager of the imperial in the cable cove district states that it is altogether probable that he will intall a small reduction plant on the property this summer there has been some litigation pending in regard to the issuance of patents for the claims owned by the company for some time this is now nearing adjustment and as soon as it is settled the plant will be installed A K press of marion ind spent some cime in the district recently looking after the interests of the navadah group in the cable cove of which he is general manager the property was acquired last fall from eugene bartholf of sumpter who still retains an interest in it mr press is figuring on installing a mill this summer he will be back in about a month to start work at present there is too much snow on the claims to work to any advantage accompanying mr press to sumpter was W K kirkpatrick a stockholder in the company A party of standard people headed by J A mclaughlin secretary cf the killen warner ste stewart wart company operating the property returned recently from a visit to the mine besides mr mclaughlin there were in the party C A besser the companas comp anys representative at mount pleasant iowa L palmer and A B hawkins of burlington and henry of sigourney iowa who are interested in the company the party left for the east well pleased with the trip and the general prospects of the standard C J allen alien of portland managing owner of the monumental was here this week looking after the operation of the property he is getting things in shape for starting the mill next summer some overhauling and alteration will have to be made before it can be run again in the meantime the mine will be operated and reserves created for continuous milling dr walter techow manager of cf the mountain view has taken a bond on the olympia and venus groups of claims which adjoin the companas comp anys property on three sides two loads from the companas comp anys old holdings extend through these new claims making them a desirable acquisition the company has ordered a modern milling plant which will be installed this summer it is understood that work will begin on the golden chariot located in the bear gulch district about the first of june this property was acquired some time ago by L V and eastern associates from dr L T brock cf sumpter the first payment has been made and the condition of the sale sae was that work was to start june julie 1 it is stated that a sinking plant is is to be installed on the main shoot of the property the personal property of the bald mountain and the mammoth was sold saturday for and respectively to eastern stockholders the sale of the two mines it is understood will take place in about a week it is a friendly sale to clear the properties of indebtedness after which it is stated they will resume operations R J davidson of bath N Y president of the snow creek company has arrived here and will spend some time at the mine the snow creek mill is in full operation with extremely satisfactory results president of the highland spent some time at the mine last week reporting things in fine shape and the new vein opened up from the highland crossi cut to be of greater
